Miami, Florida – Dangerous heat and strong afternoon thunderstorms will impact Miami and surrounding areas through Wednesday evening, with the heat index soaring to 100°F and the risk of heavy rainfall peaking during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely after 5 p.m. today, with rainfall chances at 60%. Thunderstorm activity may lead to quick street flooding in low-lying areas like Brickell, Little Havana, and Downtown. Winds from the south at 5–8 mph could push storms inland, especially near Miami International Airport and major roadways like I-95 and the Dolphin Expressway.

Residents across Miami-Dade and Broward should prepare for possible lightning, heavy rain, and rapidly changing conditions, particularly after sunset. The heat index remains high, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion for those outdoors. Officials recommend limiting strenuous activity during peak heat, staying hydrated, and avoiding flooded roads. Power outages and minor travel delays are possible.

More scattered storms are expected each afternoon through Thursday, with only slight improvement by Friday night. Another round of afternoon storms is likely for the weekend, so keep emergency kits and weather alerts handy.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday, with further updates as new advisories are issued.
