Miami, Fla. – Evening commuters across South Florida could face flooded streets as heavy rain builds between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday. Slow-moving thunderstorms are expected to drop more than two inches of rain in short bursts, raising the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the flood threat is greatest across inland suburbs of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Drivers in Fort Lauderdale, Miramar, and Coconut Creek should prepare for standing water on secondary roads, while parts of Homestead and West Palm Beach may also see flooding near intersections and drainage-prone neighborhoods.

The agency warns that sudden downpours could overwhelm storm drains, especially in areas that have seen repeated showers this week. Officials advise motorists not to attempt to drive through water-covered roads, as even shallow flooding can stall vehicles and pose serious safety risks.

Showers are expected to taper off after 8 p.m., but heavier and more widespread rainfall is forecast to return through the weekend and into early next week. Additional flood advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
