Miami, Florida – Southwest Florida faces dangerous heat and the potential for severe afternoon storms today, with heat indices climbing to 107°F before sea breeze-triggered thunderstorms develop inland.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, heat index values will peak between 105°F and 107°F across areas including Immokalee, Naples, La Belle, and Everglades City. Thunderstorm chances rise sharply in the afternoon, with the highest rainfall probabilities centered on SW Florida—74% in Immokalee, 70% in Everglades City, and 69% in La Belle. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph with frequent lightning and heavy downpours possible.

In Southeast Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, rain chances remain lower, hovering around 40%. Still, heat index values above 100°F will make outdoor activity hazardous across the region.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and seek air conditioning. Prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Storms may begin by late afternoon and persist into the evening. Warnings remain in effect, and updates are expected throughout the day.
