Miami, Fla. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to drench South Florida through the evening, raising the risk of localized flooding across Miami, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Blinding downpours and sudden gusty winds are expected to impact the east coast metro corridor just in time for the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, storms will develop quickly and may deliver more than 2 inches of rain in a short time, overwhelming streets and low-lying areas. The strongest activity is expected from midafternoon through the evening, with travel conditions deteriorating as visibility drops in heavy rainfall.

Drivers on I-95, U.S. 1, and major arterial roads in Miami-Dade and Broward should prepare for ponding water, sudden lane closures, and reduced speeds. The gusty winds may also scatter debris and complicate air travel at Miami International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airports.

Emergency officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads, keep mobile devices charged, and remain alert for additional advisories. The risk of storms and flooding will linger into Tuesday morning before conditions begin to ease.
