Miami, Fla. – South Florida is facing dangerous heat Tuesday, with heat indices expected to soar past 105°F in several cities by midafternoon. The combination of high humidity and temperatures in the 90s will push “feels-like” readings into triple digits from late morning through sunset.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, peak heat index values could reach 108°F in parts of Miami, Naples, and West Palm Beach between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The heat will be most intense inland but will still impact coastal communities, making outdoor work and recreation risky during the day’s hottest hours.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, seek air conditioning, and avoid strenuous activity outdoors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The NWS warns that fans alone may not provide sufficient cooling during extreme heat events. Those without access to air conditioning should use designated cooling centers or stay in shaded, ventilated spaces.
The excessive heat risk will gradually ease overnight, but similar conditions are possible again Wednesday.
