MIAMI, Fla. – A beautiful fall weekend comes with serious coastal hazards in South Florida as rip currents and minor flooding threaten beaches through Sunday. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Statement and extended a High Rip Current Risk for Miami-Dade County, warning of dangerous surf despite mostly sunny skies.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, strong onshore winds and persistent swells from the Atlantic are creating hazardous beach conditions that could sweep swimmers away from shore. The agency advises residents and visitors to avoid swimming at unguarded beaches and to stay clear of flooded coastal roads and low-lying areas. Those venturing near the water should swim only near lifeguards and heed all red-flag warnings.

Weather conditions inland will remain ideal for fall outdoor events, with highs in the low to mid-80s through Monday and a steady northeast breeze. Skies will stay mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday before turning partly cloudy early next week. Winds may gust near 25 mph along U.S. 1 and A1A, especially near Biscayne Bay and Miami Beach.

Forecasters expect the breezy pattern to persist into early next week before easing slightly by Wednesday. Beach erosion and high surf will remain possible through Sunday evening. Residents should secure lightweight outdoor items and use caution when driving through any flooded intersections. Despite the sunshine, South Florida’s fall weekend carries real risks along the coast.
