Miami, FL – Heavy tropical rainfall and dangerous beach conditions will impact South Florida through the weekend, raising concerns for flooding, rip currents, and coastal safety. The National Weather Service warns that rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are likely across eastern Miami-Dade and Broward counties, with isolated pockets of 4 to 6 inches possible. Slow-moving downpours could lead to water pooling on streets and in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service Miami office, the risk is linked to a broad low-pressure system lingering over the Bahamas, channeling deep tropical moisture into South Florida. Thunderstorms that develop will be slow-moving, increasing the chance for localized flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region under a marginal risk of excessive rainfall each day through Sunday.

Beachgoers face another hazard. According to the NWS coastal hazard team, a High Rip Current Risk remains in effect for Miami-Dade and Broward beaches through at least Sunday morning. Strong currents can sweep even strong swimmers into deeper waters. In addition, minor coastal flooding is possible during high tide cycles from Friday evening through the weekend. Drivers near coastal roads should be alert for saltwater covering pavement, especially during overnight high tides.

Officials urge residents to avoid swimming outside guarded beaches, keep sandbags ready in flood-prone neighborhoods, and use caution during commutes in heavy rain. Travelers on I-95 and local causeways should expect slower traffic during peak downpours. Residents are also advised to charge devices, monitor forecasts, and keep an eye on rapidly changing conditions as the weekend unfolds.
