Miami, FL – South Florida enters the first weekend of October with storm chances rising, bringing commuters and beachgoers a few hurdles. The National Weather Service warns showers and thunderstorms will stay in the area through Saturday, October 4, before skies gradually clear.

According to forecasters, Friday night through Saturday morning carries the highest risk of storms, with localized downpours and gusts topping 20 mph. Drivers along I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, and U.S. 1 should expect slick pavement and slower traffic. The heaviest rainfall could drop between 1 and 2 inches, raising the risk of ponding on roads.

Friday’s daytime hours will offer brief breaks of sun, but any outdoor plans should include backup options. Afternoon thunderstorms could delay flights at Miami International Airport and slow traffic toward Miami Beach. Saturday’s weather begins much the same, with a 70 percent chance of rain before conditions begin to ease by the evening.

The pattern shifts heading into next week. By Sunday, skies clear more often, with only scattered showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will hover in the mid-80s, paired with humid breezes off Biscayne Bay. Looking toward Halloween preparations, conditions favor outdoor decorating and pumpkin patch visits starting Monday, when drier air returns.

Residents are urged to keep umbrellas handy and check updates if traveling late Friday into Saturday. More advisories may be issued if storms intensify.
