Florida — Flags whip hard along South Florida beaches this morning as onshore winds push choppy surf toward the coast. The water looks inviting, but conditions remain deceptive and dangerous.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Rip Current Risk for Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach coastal areas through Thursday evening. Persistent northeast winds near 20 mph, with higher gusts, continue to drive strong currents away from shore. Even experienced swimmers can be pulled quickly into deeper water.

This morning starts mostly cloudy and breezy, with temperatures near 68 degrees. Showers may pass through at times, especially later today. While rainfall stays spotty, winds remain the main concern. Beachgoers should swim only near lifeguards or avoid the water altogether.

By Thursday, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms develop as moisture increases. Highs climb into the upper 70s, but rough surf continues. Conditions may deteriorate quickly near inlets and jetties, where currents strengthen fastest. Boaters should expect choppy conditions on Biscayne Bay and nearby Atlantic waters.

Friday begins a gradual improvement. Winds ease slightly, skies trend brighter, and rip current risk should slowly lower. By Saturday, sunshine returns with highs near 80 degrees. Surf calms compared to midweek, though caution remains advised near open beaches.

Sunday looks warm and mostly dry, with highs pushing into the low 80s. That said, winter weather remains active nationwide. The 6–10 day outlook shows colder air dominating much of the eastern U.S., while South Florida stays warmer than average with periodic rain chances.
