Kendall, Florida – A sudden burst of high winds swept through the Kendall area Monday afternoon as a strong, nearly stationary thunderstorm stalled over Zoo Miami, triggering a Special Weather Statement for much of southern Miami-Dade County.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the storm was first detected at 2:09 p.m. with radar indicating wind gusts between 45 and 50 mph. The storm remains slow-moving, raising the risk of downed tree limbs, flying debris, and dangerous conditions for outdoor activities.

Neighborhoods impacted include Kendall, The Redland, Pinecrest, Richmond Heights, Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay, West Perrine, The Crossings, and as far west as The Hammocks and West Kendall. These gusty winds can knock over unsecured objects and make travel hazardous, especially near large trees or open spaces.

Residents are advised to seek shelter in a sturdy building and avoid standing under trees or near power lines until the storm exits the area. Outdoor furniture, trash bins, and loose items should be secured immediately.

This alert expires at 2:45 p.m., though additional statements are possible if the storm persists or strengthens.
