Miami, Florida – A line of morning showers and isolated thunderstorms may slow travel across South Florida before drier air returns later today.
According to the US National Weather Service in Miami, a band of showers with possible embedded thunderstorms is moving across the region Monday morning. The activity is expected to progress from west to east, affecting Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties during the early commute hours.
Forecasters say some downpours could briefly reduce visibility and produce ponding on roadways. Drivers along Interstate 95, US-1, Interstate 75, and Interstate 595 may encounter slick pavement and changing traffic speeds during heavier showers.
Behind the morning rain, drier conditions are expected to develop this afternoon and continue through the rest of the week. Skies will gradually clear, with high temperatures reaching the low 80s across much of the region.
Forecast highs Monday include 83 degrees in Miami, 81 in Fort Lauderdale, 80 in West Palm Beach, and 76 in Naples. Interior communities such as Clewiston and Immokalee are also expected to reach around 80 degrees.
No widespread severe weather has been confirmed, but isolated lightning strikes remain possible within stronger cells early in the day.
The timing of the rain may affect students and commuters traveling during peak morning hours, especially along major east-west corridors feeding into I-95.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for any changes in timing as showers move offshore later this morning.
