Miami, Florida — A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 9 a.m. Wednesday (New Year’s Eve) for interior portions of South Florida, bringing unusually chilly conditions to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the advisory covers Glades County, Hendry County, interior Collier County, and interior Palm Beach County, where overnight lows are expected between 33° and 40°F. Wind chills may drop to between 29° and 34°F, particularly in rural and inland locations.
Communities including Clewiston, Belle Glade, Moore Haven, Immokalee, and inland areas near Lake Okeechobee are most likely to experience the coldest conditions early this morning. The advisory highlights potential impacts to people, pets, and sensitive plants.
Roadways such as US-27, US-41 (Tamiami Trail), State Road 80, and State Road 29 could see chilly early-morning travel, though no icing is expected due to dry conditions. Motorists traveling inland before sunrise are advised to dress warmly and remain alert.
Temperatures will gradually rebound later Wednesday, with afternoon highs climbing into the 60s and low 70s. Conditions will continue to moderate into New Year’s Day (Thursday), with no cold weather advisories expected and generally pleasant conditions returning across South Florida.
The National Weather Service advises residents in advisory areas to limit prolonged outdoor exposure early this morning, bring pets indoors, and protect cold-sensitive vegetation.
