Miami, Florida – Heavy rain is triggering street flooding across Miami-Dade County this afternoon, with a flood advisory in effect until 4 p.m. Friday as thunderstorms continue to soak low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, Doppler radar detected pockets of heavy rainfall around 3:07 p.m., with up to 2 inches already fallen and another 1 to 2 inches expected in the advisory zone. Areas at highest risk include Miami, Coral Gables, West Miami, South Miami, and Coral Terrace.
Minor flooding is ongoing or expected soon, especially in poor drainage zones. Residents should avoid driving through standing water and stay alert to rapidly changing conditions. “Turn around, don’t drown,” emergency officials warn—most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
Localized street closures or delays are possible, particularly near canals and intersections with poor runoff systems. Residents are urged to check local traffic updates and avoid non-essential travel until water recedes.
This is the latest in a string of September storms affecting southern Florida. Updates will follow if conditions worsen or advisories are extended.
