Miami, Florida – A sharp cold front will bring unusually cold conditions to South Florida late Thursday night into Friday morning, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory and an inland Freeze Warning, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
For the Miami metro area, overnight lows are expected to fall to around 39 to 44 degrees early Friday morning. While freezing temperatures are not expected along the immediate coast, forecasters warn that cold wind chills will make conditions feel colder than the thermometer reading, especially during the early morning hours.
A Freeze Warning is in effect for Glades and Hendry counties from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, where temperatures are forecast to drop to near or below 32 degrees, particularly west of Lake Okeechobee. The National Weather Service indicates a 40 to 60 percent probability of sub-freezing temperatures in that interior region.
A broader Cold Weather Advisory covers much of South Florida, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, due to the risk of very cold wind chill values Friday morning. Minimum apparent temperatures across the region are forecast to range from the upper 20s inland to the mid-30s near Miami, with the coldest conditions occurring between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Thursday will remain unsettled ahead of the front, with rain chances between 60 and 80 percent across South Florida. Daytime highs Thursday are expected to reach the low to mid-70s in Miami before temperatures drop rapidly overnight as the front passes.
The National Weather Service advises residents to dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and take precautions to protect sensitive plants, especially in interior and agricultural areas.
Morning commuters and outdoor workers in Miami should prepare for unusually cold conditions during the Friday morning commute.
