Miami, Florida – South Florida’s beaches may look inviting this spring, but dangerous rip currents could turn a swim into a rescue through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a High Rip Current Risk remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, impacting Coastal Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade County. Swimmers are urged to stay near lifeguards and avoid unguarded beaches, particularly along popular spots near A1A. Rip currents can pull even strong swimmers far from shore, making escape difficult and dangerous.

Officials recommend relaxing and floating if caught in a rip current—don’t fight it. Instead, swim parallel to the shoreline until free. If that fails, face the beach, signal for help, and conserve energy.

Though conditions remain mostly sunny and warm through the weekend, breezy east winds around 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph will continue to drive hazardous surf. Friday and Saturday both bring highs near 80°F, with overnight lows in the mid-70s and mostly clear skies.
