Peru, IN – A Miami County man has been sentenced to 29 years in prison following a violent disturbance earlier this year that involved police gunfire, according to the Indiana State Police.

On January 7, 2025, investigators from the Indiana State Police Lafayette District responded to a residence on State Road 19 in Miami County after reports of a disturbance. Police said an armed subject confronted officers, and one officer discharged their firearm. The individual survived and was later taken into custody.

According to authorities, Marco Anguiano was found guilty by a jury last week and sentenced at the Indiana Department of Correction. Charges included:

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (Level 4 felony)
  • Intimidation with a deadly weapon (Level 5 felony)
  • Pointing a firearm at another (Level 6 felony)
  • Resisting law enforcement (Level 6 felony)

The Miami County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Anguiano received a 29-year sentence.

Officials said the resolution brings closure to the investigation and highlights cooperation between the Indiana State Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the Peru Police Department, and prosecutors. Authorities emphasized their ongoing commitment to holding violent offenders accountable and protecting the public.
