Peru, Indiana – Peru Jr./Sr. High School was evacuated and classes were canceled Thursday after a bomb threat was reported, prompting a multi-agency law enforcement response.

According to Peru Community Schools, the Miami County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a bomb threat at approximately 9:00 a.m. Thursday involving Peru Jr./Sr. High School. Local and state authorities were immediately dispatched to the scene, including Peru Police, PCS Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, and Indiana State Police.

School officials said the district promptly executed its emergency preparedness plan to ensure the safety of students and staff. While the high school was evacuated in an organized manner, all other buildings in the district were placed on yellow lockdown as a precaution.

Within minutes, additional agencies arrived, including Bunker Hill Police, Miami County EMA, and the Peru Fire Department. A secure perimeter was established around the school as officials awaited the arrival of Indiana State Police bomb-sniffing canines. Peru Police and Indiana State Police jointly began an investigation into the threat.

During the response, students were relocated to a secure area and later released to parents and guardians. School officials announced that Peru Jr./Sr. High School would be closed for the remainder of the day, and all extracurricular activities were canceled.

The district said families were notified about procedures for students to retrieve personal items left inside the building once the scene was cleared.
