Miami, Florida – Swimmers hitting South Florida’s east coast beaches today are facing a moderate risk of rip currents, prompting safety warnings through this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the advisory applies to all Atlantic beaches from Palm Beach to Miami-Dade County. Lifeguards are urging beachgoers to swim only in guarded areas and obey posted warning flags, as rip currents can quickly pull even strong swimmers into deeper water.
Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach are among the high-traffic areas under the alert. While the risk is not at its peak, conditions remain hazardous for those unfamiliar with ocean currents or swimming in unguarded zones. The warning is especially critical for visitors and families spending Father’s Day along the shoreline.
Experts recommend staying out of the surf if unsure about water conditions and avoiding swimming alone. If caught in a rip current, remain calm, float, and swim parallel to the shore until free from the current’s pull.
Rip current threats are expected to ease by late tonight, but beach safety officials say conditions can change quickly and additional alerts may follow.
