Manzanillo, Mexico – Ships and coastal operators off the southwest coast of Mexico should brace for dangerous marine conditions through Friday as a tropical storm barrels through the eastern Pacific, bringing wind gusts up to 50 knots and seas as high as 15 feet.
According to the National Hurricane Center, a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for offshore waters from Colima and Jalisco down to Guerrero and Michoacán. The most severe conditions are expected Thursday night into Friday, with sustained winds of 30 to 50 kt and frequent thunderstorms battering areas within 250 nautical miles of shore.
The strongest impact is likely to occur near the offshore zones of Colima and Jalisco, where seas will rise sharply to 14–15 feet late Thursday and peak Friday as the storm’s center tracks northeastward. Farther south near Guerrero and Michoacán, tropical storm-force winds and 10-ft seas are also expected, especially farther from shore.
Mariners are urged to avoid these zones and secure vessels. Thunderstorm activity may reduce visibility and produce locally stronger gusts.
Storm conditions are expected to ease gradually by Saturday morning, but elevated seas and residual swells may linger through the weekend. Additional marine advisories are possible as the system evolves.
