Atlanta, GA – Evening storms could disrupt travel across north and central Georgia as scattered thunderstorms bring heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning through 9 p.m. Tuesday. Low-lying areas in northeast Georgia face the highest flood risk as slow-moving cells drop localized downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, some storms may produce isolated downburst winds topping 40 mph along with frequent lightning. While the most intense activity should taper off overnight, spotty showers will linger into Wednesday.

Metro Atlanta will see storm chances return Wednesday afternoon, mainly after 5 p.m., with highs near 90 degrees. Eastbound commuters on I-20 and I-285 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick road conditions during evening rush hour. From Friday through Sunday, storm coverage is expected to increase statewide, though widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

Residents are urged to monitor rainfall totals closely, avoid driving through flooded intersections, and keep electronic devices charged in case of power outages.

Thunderstorm chances continue into early next week, with drier and cooler air arriving by Tuesday.
