Meth Possession Suspect in Illinois Causes School Scare with Air Rifle

EFFINGHAM, IL — Tensions ran high near South Side School this morning when Jeffry B. Pinkerton, 49, was sighted near the school, apparently armed. 

According to Effingham Police, officers promptly responded at 11:03 a.m. and found the weapon to be an air rifle. Pinkerton, now in custody, was later charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia, and Criminal Trespass to Vehicle.

South Side School took immediate precautions during the incident. Effingham’s Chief Jason McFarland praised vigilant residents for their role in the quick action. Superintendent Andrew Johnson applauded the cohesive response of the community and law enforcement.

Assisted by Effingham County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police, Effingham Police remind residents to report suspicions at 217-347-0774. Anonymous tips can be made at 217-347-6583, with potential rewards of up to $1,000.
