According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 7:55 a.m. on November 16 to a report of a lost child on the 600 block of Brentwood Drive in Palisade. Assisted by the Palisade Police Department, deputies began canvassing the area, and a reverse 911 alert was issued to residents at 8:27 a.m.

Just minutes later, dispatch received a call from a resident who spotted the child sitting on a golf cart on West 1st Street. Deputies arrived to find the golf cart and child missing again, prompting a second reverse 911 alert at 8:43 a.m. and the deployment of a drone to assist in the search.

Calls soon began coming in about the child’s changing direction of travel. Deputies, joined by Grand Junction Police officers, located the golf cart moving slowly northbound on 29 Road. A deputy managed to stop the cart and bring the situation to a safe end by 9:15 a.m.

The child was safely turned over to guardians, and the golf cart was returned to its owners. No injuries were reported during the incident. Authorities thanked the public and assisting agencies for their help in resolving the situation.
