Mesa, AZ – Dangerous heat will grip Mesa and much of central Arizona Sunday as temperatures soar near 109°F, marking the start of a multi-day stretch of extreme heat expected to last through Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service warns the prolonged high temperatures and warm overnight lows—barely dipping below the upper 80s—could create hazardous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Sunday’s sunshine and light winds will give way to highs of 110°F or hotter on Monday and Tuesday. The Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for the entire metro area, including Tempe, Chandler, and Gilbert. Officials advise limiting outdoor activity to early mornings or evenings, drinking plenty of water, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.
Heat-related illnesses can set in quickly during this kind of prolonged stretch, especially for those without reliable air conditioning. Pets should be kept indoors, and cars should never be left unattended with children or animals inside, even for a short time.
Relief may arrive midweek as temperatures drop closer to 108°F by Thursday, with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms offering brief breaks from the sun.
