Merrillville Motorcyclist Killed in Sauk Village Crash

Merrillville, IN – A 35-year-old Merrillville man died in a motorcycle accident in Sauk Village, Illinois, late Thursday night. Matthew Walkup was pronounced dead at Franciscan Health Dyer Emergency Room after suffering multiple blunt force injuries in the crash.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred at the intersection of Torrence Avenue and Lincoln Highway. Walkup was the driver of the motorcycle and sustained critical injuries in the collision.

Emergency personnel were alerted at 10:24 p.m., and Walkup was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician at 10:39 p.m. His family was present at the hospital to identify him. Walkup resided on the 8300 block of Rutledge Street in Merrillville.

A forensic autopsy conducted at the Lake County Forensic Science Center in Crown Point confirmed the cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death has been ruled an accident.
