Matherville, IL – A Matherville man is facing multiple felony charges this week after Illinois State Police (ISP) Special Agents allegedly uncovered child sexual abuse materials during a search of his residence.
According to the Illinois State Police, investigators arrested 24-year-old Bryce Berhenke of Matherville for five counts of Dissemination of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (Class X Felony), three counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials Under 13 (Class 2 Felony), and two counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials Over 13 (Class 3 Felony).
ISP officials said Special Agents executed a search warrant on November 20, 2025, at a home in the 100 block of 1st Street in Matherville. During the search, authorities allegedly recovered electronic evidence that, once analyzed, revealed child sexual abuse materials. Agents then presented their findings to Mercer County State’s Attorney Grace Simpson, who approved the charges.
Berhenke was arrested following the investigation and transported to the Mercer County Jail, where he remains in custody, according to police.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office assisted ISP during the investigation. Authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
State officials also encouraged residents to report suspected child exploitation. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) accepts anonymous cyber tips at www.cybertipline.com. Additional safety resources are available through the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and child advocacy groups.
Police emphasized that the charges are allegations, and Berhenke is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
