PITTSBURGH, PA – The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Mercer and Venango counties, in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday, as heavy snow continues to move through the region.
Forecasters expect total accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with localized totals up to 10 inches possible where the heaviest snow bands persist. Snowfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour, creating dangerous travel conditions.
The NWS warns that travel will be very difficult, particularly during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Sudden visibility drops and slick roads will make driving hazardous, especially along Interstate 80 and nearby routes.
The strongest lake effect bands are expected to pivot across the counties overnight, producing sharp variations in snow totals. Some areas could see only light snow, while others experience prolonged heavy snowfall and near whiteout conditions.
Motorists are urged to delay nonessential travel and keep emergency supplies—including blankets, flashlights, and water—in vehicles. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511.
