Mendon, VT – Deputies with the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help after threatening graffiti was discovered Sunday evening at Aitkin State Park in Mendon.

According to the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Ryder Paskevich was patrolling the park around 6:11 p.m. on October 12, 2025, when he found a message painted in red spray paint on the trailhead information board near the hiking area. The message, which included threatening language toward leaders, covered the entire face of the board.

Two visitors who had arrived earlier told deputies they had not seen the graffiti when they parked, suggesting the vandalism occurred within the previous hour. Investigators believe the incident happened sometime between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities are urging anyone who was at Aitkin State Park during that time and noticed suspicious activity to contact Deputy Ryder Paskevich at the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that while freedom of expression is respected, vandalism of public land will not be tolerated.
