Memphis, Tenn. – Dangerous late-summer heat will grip the Mid-South through early next week, with temperatures pushing well into the 90s and the potential for triple digits in spots. The National Weather Service in Memphis reports a near 99% chance that most of West Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas will top 90 degrees on both Sunday and Monday.
According to NWS forecasters, Memphis, Jonesboro, and Blytheville carry a 98–99% probability of hitting 90° or above. While the chances of reaching 100° remain lower, Memphis, Jackson, and Jonesboro still face a 10–15% shot at breaking the century mark on Monday. Clarksdale holds the highest odds in the region at 17%.
Heat will be most intense during the afternoon hours, particularly along the I-40 corridor. Residents should limit outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Power demand is expected to surge, and MLGW is urging customers to conserve energy during peak afternoon hours.
This stretch of heat could be one of the last major surges of the season. Conditions are expected to ease slightly by midweek, but advisories may be issued if triple-digit heat becomes more widespread.
