Memphis, Tenn. – Drivers and residents across Memphis will face another scorching day Thursday, with highs climbing near 95 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Humidity is pushing the heat index higher, keeping conditions uncomfortable across much of the Mid-South.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a slight break from the dry streak arrives Friday afternoon when a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m. Temperatures will remain high, with daytime readings in the lower 90s.

Saturday is shaping up to be the best day for outdoor plans, with sunshine, lighter winds, and highs near 94. By Sunday night, however, storms are likely to return, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms that could linger into Monday. The unsettled weather pattern is expected to hold into early next week, raising the possibility of wet commutes and slick roadways across Shelby County.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest hours of the day, and keep an eye on changing conditions by late weekend. Additional weather advisories may be issued as storms track into the region.
