Memphis, TN – A cold front approaching the Mid-South will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, including a low-end risk for isolated severe storms mainly north of the Tennessee–Mississippi line.

According to the National Weather Service Memphis, storms are expected to develop late Thursday morning and continue through the afternoon, with the primary window for active weather occurring between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. While overall instability remains limited, forecasters note a very low (<5%) chance that one or two storms could briefly become strong to severe.

If severe weather does occur, damaging winds would be the primary concern. Most storms are expected to move from northwest to southeast as the cold front sweeps across Arkansas, West Tennessee, north Mississippi, and east Arkansas.

Widespread rainfall is likely across the region, but the severe potential remains low due to limited atmospheric energy. Still, forecasters caution that even marginal setups can occasionally produce short-lived stronger storms, especially along and north of the Tennessee–Mississippi border, including areas near Covington, Dyersburg, and Union City.

Behind the front, gusty northwest winds are expected Thursday evening. Cooler and drier air will arrive for Friday, offering a break from the unsettled pattern.

Residents across the Memphis metro and the broader Mid-South should remain weather-aware Thursday, monitor alerts, and be prepared for brief periods of heavy rain, lightning, and potentially strong wind gusts.
