MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A brief but sharp blast of cold air will sweep through the Mid-South to start the new week, sending wind chills into the 20s and low 30s by Monday morning. The National Weather Service in Memphis warns that while the chill will be short-lived, it will feel like the first true taste of winter for the region.

According to the NWS, a strong cold front will push through Sunday evening, ushering in much colder and drier air overnight. Morning lows Monday will drop into the lower 30s, but brisk northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph will make it feel 10 to 15 degrees colder. Wind chills between 25° and 30° are expected across most of western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, eastern Arkansas, and the Missouri Bootheel.

Tuesday morning will be similarly cold, though slightly less breezy. Temperatures will again dip into the low to mid-30s, with “feels-like” values around freezing. This brief cold snap will not last long—southerly winds will return by midweek, bringing a noticeable warm-up with highs rebounding into the 60s and lows back in the 40s.

The NWS advises residents to protect outdoor pets and sensitive plants from the chill and to take care when using space heaters indoors. The cold air will also create a crisp start for early commuters, though no precipitation is expected during the event.

By Wednesday, warmer air and sunshine will dominate as temperatures climb well above normal again heading into the second half of the week.
