MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A refreshing fall cooldown has settled across the Mid-South, but it won’t last long. Temperatures will hover in the 70s through the weekend before a sharp warmup pushes highs back into the 80s by early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a dry cold front slid through the region Wednesday night, bringing lower humidity and cooler air under clear skies. High pressure now dominates, keeping rain chances near zero through at least next Thursday. Jackson, Jonesboro, Memphis, and Tupelo can expect highs mainly in the mid-70s through Sunday before readings climb quickly again Monday and Tuesday.

The upcoming pattern flip will send temperatures about 10 degrees above normal by early next week, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s likely through midweek. Despite the warmth, forecasters say dry air and light winds will limit humidity levels. No organized rain is expected through the seven-day period.

Drivers along I-40 and I-55 should encounter smooth travel conditions with dry pavement and light winds. Outdoor events and fall festivals will benefit from the mild stretch, though residents are urged to stay hydrated during the brief warmup. Gardeners may continue watering since rainfall remains absent, and residents are reminded to check on pets and plants as temperatures rebound.
