Memphis, Tennessee – Showers are moving across the Mid-South today and are expected to continue through Tuesday, bringing wet road conditions to major travel corridors and helping melt lingering snow and ice in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service office in Memphis, light to occasionally moderate rain will spread across western Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, north Mississippi, and southeast Missouri through the day. Rainfall totals are generally expected to range from a few hundredths of an inch to around one-half inch, with the highest amounts forecast across northeast Mississippi.

Roadways including Interstate 40, Interstate 55, Interstate 22, and key routes such as US-45, US-51, and US-63 are expected to remain wet through much of the day. While no flooding concerns are anticipated, reduced traction and standing water in low-lying areas could impact travel, particularly during peak commute hours.

Forecasters note that the rainfall should help accelerate melting of any remaining snow and ice from previous cold weather, especially in shaded or less-traveled areas. Motorists are still advised to watch for slick spots early this morning where melting is ongoing.

Temperatures will remain on the warmer side today, with highs generally in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Cooler air is expected to return Wednesday and Thursday, though temperatures are forecast to rebound into the 50s and 60s for much of the region by the weekend.

The National Weather Service recommends carrying rain gear and allowing extra travel time, especially for drivers navigating interstates and urban roadways during steady rainfall periods.

This weather pattern may be most noticeable for commuters, delivery drivers, and freight traffic moving along the I-40 and I-55 corridors. Conditions gradually improve as showers taper off by Wednesday morning, setting the stage for drier weather later in the week.
