Memphis, TN – Drivers along Interstate 40 and Interstate 55 will notice a sharp warmup by mid-afternoon Monday as temperatures climb into the upper 60s, launching a stretch of 70 to 75 degree highs across the Mid-South through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, showers will exit the region Sunday, allowing high pressure to build in through midweek. Above-normal temperatures will dominate West Tennessee, North Mississippi and East Arkansas, with near-record highs possible by Thursday afternoon. Memphis is expected to reach 72 degrees Tuesday, 74 Wednesday and 75 by Thursday. Jackson, Jonesboro, Tupelo and Oxford are forecast to see similar mid-70s readings.

The warming trend will impact communities along I-40 from Memphis to Jackson, I-55 south toward Hernando and Batesville, and US-63 near Jonesboro. Afternoon traffic may increase as residents take advantage of the unseasonably mild weather. Construction zones along I-240 in Memphis and US-78 into DeSoto County could see heavier-than-normal flow during peak daylight hours.

While no hazardous weather is expected, the rapid temperature swing may lead to areas of early morning fog near the Mississippi River and low-lying spots along US-61. Drivers should remain alert during the early commute hours before visibility improves after 9 a.m.

Above-average warmth is expected to persist through at least Thursday evening, with additional updates possible if record highs appear within reach.
