Memphis, Tennessee – Sub-freezing temperatures will grip the Mid-South Sunday through Tuesday mornings, with lows dropping to 25 degrees in Memphis and creating freeze conditions along I-40 and I-240 by 6 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a series of cold fronts will push temperatures closer to seasonal norms after recent record warmth. The strongest surge of cold air arrives late Saturday night, setting up the coldest stretch early next week.
Morning lows will fall well below freezing.
Forecast minimums show Memphis near 25 degrees Monday morning, Jackson, Tennessee around 22 degrees, Jonesboro, Arkansas near 24, and Oxford, Mississippi around 27 degrees. Additional sub-freezing readings are expected again Tuesday morning before temperatures moderate midweek.
While roads are expected to remain dry, bridges and elevated ramps along I-55 and I-40 could briefly approach freezing before sunrise. The colder air will be most noticeable during the morning commute, especially where light winds add to the chill.
Daytime highs Sunday and Monday will only reach the upper 30s to lower 40s, marking the coldest period in roughly a week. A gradual warming trend begins Wednesday, with highs rebounding into the 60s by late week.
What residents should do now: Protect exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and allow extra time for vehicles to warm up before early travel.
Freeze conditions are expected Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings, with the coldest readings occurring before sunrise Monday and Tuesday. Additional freeze advisories may be issued as the cold air settles across the region.
