Memphis, Tennessee – Dangerous winter weather is intensifying across the city as a crippling ice storm is expected to impact travel, utilities, and daily life through early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, ice accumulations between 0.5 and 1.0 inches are forecast across the metro area, with sleet totals of 1 to 3 inches possible along and near Interstate 40. The highest ice amounts are expected south and east of downtown Memphis, including Holly Springs, Oxford, and Corinth, where ice may exceed one inch.

Forecasters warn that sleet and freezing rain will create extremely hazardous road conditions, with slow or minimal improvement even after precipitation tapers. Elevated roadways, bridges, and untreated surfaces are most at risk. Power outages are also possible as ice accumulates on trees and power lines.

The storm’s impact is expected to continue through 6 a.m. Monday, with a sharp gradient between heavy ice and lighter sleet totals across Shelby County.

Commuters, delivery drivers, and shift workers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially overnight and early morning hours.

Residents are advised to monitor official NWS updates and prepare for extended disruptions.
