Memphis, Tennessee — A brief warmup Friday will be followed by another round of colder air settling into the Memphis area this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will rebound slightly on Friday, with afternoon highs reaching around 50 degrees in Memphis. That mild break will be short-lived as another blast of cold air arrives late Friday into Saturday.

Forecasters say weekend temperatures will remain well below normal, with Saturday highs near the upper 30s and Sunday highs struggling to reach the low 30s. Some locations across the Mid-South may remain near or below freezing for much of Sunday.

Overnight lows will also trend colder, falling into the 20s and lower 30s, increasing the risk for cold-related impacts during early morning hours. While no significant winter precipitation is highlighted at this time, the persistent cold alone may affect travel, outdoor activities, and household preparations.

The National Weather Service emphasized that the coldest period is expected Sunday into early next week, when temperatures may remain below seasonal averages for an extended stretch.

Residents are encouraged to plan for colder mornings, protect pets and plants, and dress in layers if spending time outdoors this weekend.

This update is especially relevant for weekend travelers, outdoor workers, and early-morning commuters, as the coldest conditions will coincide with lower daytime temperatures and overnight lows.
