Memphis, Tennessee – Triple-digit heat will push deeper into West Tennessee Thursday, with Memphis and surrounding cities at risk of dangerous heat-related illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory is in effect Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach 105°F or higher. Cities under the advisory include Memphis, Clarksdale, and parts of northern Mississippi. The extreme heat will continue into the weekend, with Saturday projected to bring the highest heat index values with up to 109°F in Clarksdale and 107°F in Memphis.

Drivers along Interstate 55 and outdoor workers should plan for limited exposure, stay hydrated, and take frequent cooling breaks. Peak heat will occur between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., when the risk of heat stroke is highest.

Local officials urge residents to check on vulnerable neighbors, never leave pets or children in vehicles, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Loose, light-colored clothing and access to air conditioning are strongly recommended.

Memphis is expected to hit 94°F on Thursday, 95°F Friday, and 98°F on Sunday, with heat indices consistently over 100°F. There’s a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms Friday and Saturday afternoon, but no widespread relief is expected.

This marks one of the most intense stretches of summer heat so far this year for the Mid-South.
