Memphis, TN – The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued possible increased thunderstorm activity starting this afternoon and continuing through Friday morning. Residents are advised to remain indoors if they hear thunder, as lightning can strike several miles away from thunderstorms.

According to the US National Weather Service, the storms are expected to begin around noon today, intensifying through the evening and continuing until midnight Friday. Today, the Fourth of July, carries a significant risk of thunderstorms, especially after 4 PM. Temperatures will soar to a high of 95°F, exacerbating the severe weather conditions.

The forecast for the upcoming days also predicts unsettled weather. On Friday, scattered thunderstorms are expected with a high of 89°F. The weekend will see a slight improvement with partly cloudy skies and highs around 89°F on Saturday and 90°F on Sunday. However, the chance of rain remains, particularly on Sunday and into the early part of next week.

Residents are urged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions during outdoor Independence Day celebrations. The combination of high temperatures and potential thunderstorms presents a hazardous situation.
