Memphis, TN – A severe weather outbreak is expected to impact Tennessee overnight, bringing the risk of large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, storms are forecast to develop between 7 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday, moving from southwest to northeast. A Level 4/5 (moderate) risk of severe weather has been expanded south into Memphis, increasing the likelihood of significant impacts across the region.
The primary threats include wind gusts exceeding 70 mph, hail larger than two inches in diameter, and the potential for strong tornadoes. Areas under the highest threat include Memphis, Jonesboro, Dyersburg, and surrounding communities. A hatched area on the storm outlook map indicates a 10% or greater probability of significant hail and wind damage.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts. The National Weather Service advises moving vehicles under cover, securing outdoor items, and having a plan to seek shelter if needed.
Power outages, downed trees, and structural damage are possible. Officials recommend staying indoors and away from windows as storms move through the region.
