Memphis, TN – A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move across the Mid-South late Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.

The storms are forecast to begin developing around 5 p.m. Saturday in eastern Arkansas before pushing east across western Tennessee and north Mississippi through about 1 a.m. Sunday. The primary hazard will be damaging winds up to 60 mph, with heavy rain and a few isolated tornadoes possible, mainly west of the Mississippi River.

Forecasters say the storms will move quickly from west to east as a cold front crosses the region. Areas most at risk include Memphis, Jonesboro, Clarksdale, Oxford, and Dyersburg. Localized flooding may occur where heavier rainfall bands set up.

Residents are urged to review safety plans, secure outdoor items, and stay weather-aware through Saturday night. The NWS advises having multiple ways to receive alerts, especially if sleeping during overnight storm periods.
