Chicago, Illinois – Early morning showers may dampen plans south of I-80 on Sunday, but overall, Illinois is heading into a calm and mild Memorial Day weekend with few weather disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, there’s a 20% chance of light rain mainly during the early hours Sunday for areas south of I-80, including parts of Kankakee, Will, and Grundy counties. The rest of the region can expect largely dry skies and consistent temperatures ranging from the low 60s to low 70s through Tuesday.
Daytime highs inland will reach up to 72°F, while neighborhoods along the Lake Michigan shoreline will remain cooler, hovering in the 50s due to persistent lake breezes. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 40s to low 50s, with mostly cloudy skies expected.
Despite the light rain risk Sunday morning, travel and outdoor plans should go largely uninterrupted. Drivers heading south early should be cautious on damp roads, but no severe weather is anticipated. It’s still smart to bring a light jacket and umbrella if venturing out early.
This stable stretch of weather is expected to last through Memorial Day, with a slightly higher chance for isolated showers returning by Tuesday. Stay tuned to the NWS for any updated advisories.
