Gaylord, Michigan – Summer may be around the corner, but northern Michigan has one last frost warning for Memorial Day travelers and campers. Saturday night brings a renewed threat of patchy frost to Gaylord and surrounding areas, with overnight lows dipping to 36°F and northwest winds around 5 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the weekend begins brisk but clears quickly, with partly sunny skies and a high near 53°F on Saturday. Temperatures warm significantly by Monday, when Memorial Day highs are expected to hit 66°F under mostly sunny skies.
Travelers heading up U.S. Route 131 should prepare for chilly conditions Saturday night, especially in low-lying or rural areas more prone to overnight frost. Sensitive plants should be covered, and early risers may want to delay morning drives until any frost dissipates.
Sunday offers a brighter outlook, with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 58°F. Expect clear skies Sunday night, with lows again dipping to 38°F — another possible light frost window before summer warmth builds in.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will feel more seasonal, with a high near 67°F and continued sun. Tuesday night, however, could bring a new round of patchy frost before Wednesday warms to the upper 60s and showers reappear by nightfall.
Weather alerts remain in effect for Saturday night’s frost risk. Stay updated through Monday as Memorial Day traffic increases and temperature swings continue.
