Melbourne, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne is warning residents across east-central Florida to prepare for widespread rain, isolated thunderstorms, and hazardous coastal conditions through Sunday.
According to the NWS morning update issued October 26, rain and storm chances will increase from south to north throughout the day as a frontal boundary lifts across the region. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, with most areas seeing up to 1 inch of rain and isolated locations receiving as much as 4 inches.
“Numerous showers and embedded lightning storms will develop this afternoon and tonight,” forecasters said, noting that heavier rainfall rates could lead to minor flooding in low-lying areas and roadways. Drivers are urged to slow down to avoid hydroplaning during heavier downpours.
Coastal and marine hazards are also expected to continue due to persistent onshore winds. A High Surf Advisory remains in effect for all Atlantic beaches, including Daytona, Space, and Treasure Coasts, where surf heights of 5 to 7 feet are expected. Beach erosion and strong rip currents will make conditions dangerous for swimmers, and entering the surf is not advised, officials warned.
Boaters should also use caution, as seas of 6 to 8 feet and easterly winds between 15 to 25 knots will create hazardous conditions through tonight.
Rain chances will gradually decrease Monday as the front shifts northward and conditions slowly improve.
