Melbourne, FL – Beachgoers across east central Florida are urged to stay out of the ocean today as a high risk of rip currents continues along the Atlantic coastline.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a high rip current risk is in effect today for all east central Florida beaches, and entering the surf is not advised. Dangerous rip currents may develop quickly and can overpower even experienced swimmers. The highest risk is expected along beaches accessible from State Road A1A, including areas near Daytona Beach, Melbourne Beach, Vero Beach, and Port St. Lucie.

Away from the coast, weather conditions will remain mostly sunny and dry, with southwesterly winds of 5 to 10 mph helping temperatures trend warmer through the afternoon. Inland high temperatures are forecast to reach the mid to upper 70s, including Orlando near 79 degrees, Leesburg around 78, and Melbourne near 76 degrees. Coastal locations will be slightly cooler due to the onshore influence.

Rain chances are expected to remain near zero percent across the region, making for favorable conditions for travel and outdoor activities away from the beaches. Roadways such as Interstate 95, Interstate 4, and US-1 are not expected to see weather-related impacts.

Despite the pleasant temperatures, the National Weather Service stresses that ocean conditions remain hazardous, and beach visitors should follow local guidance, heed posted warnings, and consider staying onshore.

No additional weather hazards are expected today, and conditions will remain dry through the evening hours.

Students, commuters, and outdoor workers will notice warmer conditions compared to recent days, but beach safety remains the primary concern.

Additional updates will be issued if rip current conditions change.
