Melbourne, Florida — Colder-than-normal temperatures are increasingly likely to return to east-central Florida toward the end of January, following a brief warming trend this week.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Melbourne, the Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 day outlook shows a 70–80% probability of below-normal temperatures across much of Florida, including the Melbourne area, for the period January 27 through February 2.

Forecasters say that while temperatures are expected to gradually warm after a chilly start Tuesday morning, the overall cold pattern for January is not finished. The outlook suggests another shift toward cooler conditions as the month comes to a close, potentially bringing additional cold mornings to the Space Coast and surrounding inland communities.

In addition to temperature trends, the outlook indicates a 30–40% chance of above-normal precipitation during the same period, which could enhance the impact of cooler weather depending on timing and system strength.

The National Weather Service emphasized that the 8–14 day outlook reflects broader climate-scale signals rather than day-by-day forecasts, but confidence is higher than average given the strong temperature probability signal.

Residents are encouraged to stay aware of forecast updates as late-January approaches, particularly those sensitive to cold weather, including seniors, outdoor workers, and those with agricultural interests.

The renewed cool pattern could affect early-morning commuters and students as February begins.
