Medford, WI – A long-duration round of snow will spread across Taylor County early Saturday, creating steadily worsening travel conditions through Saturday night and lingering slick spots into early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service La Crosse office, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for Taylor County. Totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected. While the heaviest snowfall rates will focus farther south near the I-90 corridor, steady light to moderate snow will keep roads snow covered across Medford, Rib Lake, and surrounding rural routes.
According to WisDOT, crews will pretreat US-13, WIS-64, and county connectors before sunrise, but accumulation is likely to outpace plow cycles during the afternoon. Drivers should slow down, maintain longer stopping distances, and check 511wi.gov for conditions before starting longer trips. Light winds Saturday morning will increase into the evening, raising the potential for minor blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially on open stretches west of Medford.
According to Taylor County emergency management, weekend school events and small-venue gatherings may experience delays if roads become fully snow covered by late afternoon. Residents should charge phones, keep winter kits in their vehicles, and clear walkways frequently to prevent refreezing. Temperatures will hold in the upper 20s, supporting efficient accumulation on untreated surfaces.
Snow will taper from west to east late Saturday night with gradual improvements toward daybreak Sunday, but early-morning drivers should still expect slick patches on residential streets and rural highways.
