Medford, OR – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday for the Southern Oregon Cascades, where a potent mountain storm is expected to bring 6 to 16 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 60 mph across higher elevations above 4,500 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the heaviest snowfall is anticipated Saturday afternoon, when rates could reach 1 inch per hour. Areas most affected include Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, and Crescent Lake, with hazardous travel likely along Highways 62, 230, 138, 58, and 238.

Officials warn that strong winds could lead to downed trees and blowing snow, reducing visibility and creating dangerous travel conditions. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check the latest updates before heading into mountain passes.

Road impacts are expected to persist through Sunday evening, particularly on shaded curves and higher elevation routes. Motorists can find up-to-date travel information through Oregon’s TripCheck.com or by calling 511.

Residents and travelers are reminded to carry emergency kits including warm clothing, food, water, and tire chains in case of delays or sudden weather changes.
