Medford, Oregon –
Southern Oregon faces a potentially dangerous heat wave starting this weekend, with temperatures surging to their highest levels of the summer and peaking on Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the heat will affect much of the region, including the typically cooler coast south of Cape Blanco. Inland cities like Medford, Roseburg, and Grants Pass can expect triple-digit highs Sunday through Tuesday, with Monday seeing the worst of the heat. In Ashland and Klamath Falls, highs will also approach or surpass 100°F, while Brookings will experience a “Chetco Effect” pushing temperatures into the upper 80s and 90s by Saturday.
Officials warn that this level of heat can quickly lead to illness for anyone without access to cooling or hydration. Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, use public cooling centers, wear light clothing, and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours—especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. With risks elevated for heat-related emergencies, local agencies may issue additional advisories as the event unfolds. Dangerous heat is expected to linger through at least Tuesday; further updates and possible alerts could follow.
