Medford, Oregon – Daytime highs nearing 100 degrees will put residents across Jackson and Siskiyou counties at major risk for heat-related illness through Wednesday, July 16, as a prolonged stretch of hot weather grips southern Oregon and far northern California.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, stable atmospheric conditions are pushing temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above average across the region this weekend and into next week. Valleys in Jackson and Siskiyou counties—including Medford, Yreka, and Cave Junction—are expected to experience the most dangerous heat, with afternoon highs from 97°F to 105°F possible each day.

The persistent heat could impact anyone without cooling or reliable hydration, especially seniors, young children, and outdoor workers. Residents in Klamath Falls, Lakeview, and Mount Shasta will also see temperatures in the upper 80s to low 100s. Power usage may spike as households run air conditioning, while schools and businesses are urged to keep facilities cool and check on vulnerable community members.

Health officials recommend limiting outdoor activity, drinking extra water, and never leaving people or pets in parked cars. Use cooling centers or libraries if your home lacks air conditioning. This event follows a similar early July heatwave in 2021, underscoring the risk for repeat events in the region.

Warnings for dangerous heat remain in effect through at least Wednesday, with additional advisories possible if conditions persist.
